The Tuareg are directly descended from the Berbers and highly value their pieces made of 'Tuareg Silver'.    It is believed to be "the pure metal blessed by the prophet". The Tuareg people of the Sahara wear jewelry made out of this silver as an indicator of wealth, position and origin. Tuareg silver itself is an alloy of silver and copper. This particular bracelet has lots of copper, thereby the golden color. The esteemed Tuareg silversmiths create many objects d'art that use the Berber markings and geometric patterns to stand for ancient blessings of good fortune and protection for the wearer.
For the Tuareg people of central and northern Africa the use of jewelry for protection is a mix of animist traditions from W Africa and the Islamic customs of invading Arabs. The designs reflect the austerity of desert life and with the Tuaregs relative isolation, these designs have not been altered much over time. The motifs are repeated in jewelry, leatherwork and embroidery.
